When you're getting started, one can't help but notice a number of interesting terms in the definition, like "controversial practices", "intensive agriculture", along with "industrialized production", words that certainly conjure up a collection of powerful images. But of increased importance than these could be the phrase: "... making usage of economies of scale to produce the highest output along at the lowest cost. " And also, what does this mean exactly to the purposes of a chat about farm animals? Simply that this owners, developers, and supervisors of factory farms, under whose care reside vast sums of farm animals, have merely one primary concern in thoughts, one goal that drives them - the lower line! The animals themselves necessarily mean nothing more to these business owners beyond their ability to "produce the highest output at the best cost". A far cry with the caring farmer and bothered caretaker from whom our meat and dairy food were obtained not more than just a few rice.



No indeed. What's going on these days cannot by any perturbation of meaning be called farming. Today, with the exception of a few surviving family farming, our meat and dairy production happens to be completely dominated by huge corporations. While the family pets, whose lives are taken care of by these agribusiness organizations, are looked upon when mere commodities, food machines in case you will. And in the quest for greater profits, the treatment of these kind of creatures has become a growing number of barbaric.
